The adoption controversy of a little girl born in Oklahoma is causing outrage.

The girl was taken away from her adoptive parents in South Carolina because of a law meant to keep Native American families together.

Veronica, a toddler, was adopted and raised by Mat and Melanie Capobianco, the only parents she's ever known.

Veronica was taken from the Capobianco's on New Year's Eve by a court order and turned over to her biological father whom she had never met.

I'm not sure exactly where I stand on this. I can't imagine being ripped out of a home I've known my entire life to live with people I've never met.

COH please.

POOR kid....she gotta think her parents have abandoned her and given her away. Too bad there was no way that could work it that she learned her heritage and still kept the parents she knew...

To me it's obvious that nobody is thinking of the child.

      jeremy,

The adoptive parents are thinking of the child. The biological father is not. If he truly was, he would have just pressed for visitation. She is and has been comfortable with the parents who raised her.

The biological parents and the adoption officials. As far as I know the adoption was done legally. I would understand if he wanted to be part of her life but not to rip her out of the family like that is unacceptable.

I feel for the Capobiancos...and this throws a legal chill into every adoption. The biological father or another relative can challenge it, even after the fact, and even if the adoptive parents win, they are probably left with hefty legal fees and emotional scars along with the child. Future adoptive parents may be dissuaded from adopting because they would rightfully be afraid a legal stunt like this will happen to them.

This law they used is antiquated...but then you can't blame the lawyer: he had to pull a legal rabbit out of his hat to win for his client. But I think we shouldn't have the gag order. The public should know the details of this case, so that the sad circumstances won't be repeated. There are really no real winners in this fight...the damage is done.

What a shame and heartbreaking, too. Wm. Sanders is right, there are no winners here.
