"I would say probably postpone the program for the short term and evaluate it," said Sen. Richard Stevens, R-Wake. "What does it mean for the economy of the state versus what does it mean for the loss of revenue? If it's more loss of revenue than gain, we ought not to continue the program."

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Investigators have identified a second set of human remains found Thursday at a home in the 2600 block of Ashe Street as 5-year-old Jadon Higganbothan.

The remains were buried in a plastic bag - the same as the body of a woman found at the same address Wednesday.

Three popular drugs - one that mimics marijuana and two that are potent stimulants - will become illegal under state law Wednesday.

Health officials applaud the ban, hoping it will reduce the number of people who get sick from the drugs or do dangerous things while under their effects.

"I'm sick of getting these race-baiting, racist-type action alerts, e-mails, whatever you want to call them," LaRoque said in an interview at his Kinston office. "The modern-day NAACP promotes racism. That's what they're doing. They're stirring the racial pot. It's where they get their funding. It's how they get their influence."

Saturday, a week after a tornado battered the complex off Ramsey Street, he and several others in the neighborhood were moving out.

Echols knows that in the big picture, he's one of the lucky ones.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Friday night 11-year old Zach Bennett and his family got a life-changing gift at the Charlotte Checkers game -- a house in Matthews.

Zach has a condition called neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder in which tumors grow on his nerves.

He lives with his family in Albany, New York, where until this season he was a huge fan of the Albany River Rats. The Checkers bought the River Rats and the players moved to Charlotte this season.

"I miss them a lot," Zach said.

Now Zach and his family will get the chance to live near the team again, as well as be close to doctors who can help Zach's disorder.

Friday night the team presented the Bennett family with keys to a home in Matthews. Volunteers with Timberstone Homes helped make the house wheelchair accessible.

A Confederate soldier who died 147 years ago and was buried in a mass grave has been memorialized at the cemetery that holds the remains of the family he left behind to go to war.

Caitlin Breedlove told CNN affiliate WRAL that she and her partner were being affectionate but appropriate with one another when a security officer asked them to leave the shopping center.

The officer told the couple that they were being inappropriate and that "nobody wants to see that here at Cameron Village," Breedlove said, referring to the couple's homosexuality.

The NCAACP is trying to force the hand of the Board of Education by stating that it's more beneficial to bus a child ten miles away from home rather than letting the child attend classes in the school a few blocks away. All to achieve socio-economic diversity.
